Compass360   CLASSES

Compass360 operates a 14 week semester in the fall from September-December;
and a 16 week semester in the winter/spring from January-May.

We meet on Monday afternoons from 1:00 - 4:00 and Friday mornings from 9:00-12:00.
The specific dates are posted on the calendar page each semester.
We accept registration on a semester-by-semester basis.

We understand that many homeschooling families choose not to assign grade levels to their students.
However, in this setting, we have guidelines for a student's group assignment. Our program is divided into 3 levels:

Grades 1-2: These classes are for students who will be at least 6 by September of the school year.
Grades 3-5: Participants must be at least 8 by September of the school year.
Grades 6-12: There is a higher level of maturity and independence expected at this level.
Because of this, the student must be at least 12 by September of the school year.

As always, parents can determine the student's group by academic aptitude or social fit .

Spring Semester 2024

MONDAY CLASSES

Knowing Money /
Personal Finance

We all use money! It just makes common sense that our children should know about money.
Our youngest students will be introduced to the US currencies, their values, the history of money, and basic concepts of money usage. They will play interactive "money" games that reinforce solid concepts.
For our older students, this will be a full Personal Finance class including budgeting, saving, debt and credit, investing, taxes and more. Fun games and real-life scenarios will be used to reinforce money concepts.

*This is a full year course that will cover both
fall and spring semesters.

Introduction to
Theatre

Back by popular demand, we are happy to continue an introduction to the art of Theatre!
Our previous year students began this course and voted to bring it back for the
'23-'24 school year.  Students will learn the very basics of acting, production and presenting a play. They will spend extended time preparing and give presentations throughout the year.
Younger students will present several short plays while our older students will work extensively on one particular play.
Our class instructor has experience in theatrical production and studied theatre in college earning a minor in Theatrical Studies.

Read-Aloud-Literature /
Literary Analysis

This class has two objectives; to instill a love for reading in our students and to guide them into a deeper understanding of what they read. Younger students will hear a weekly "out-loud" reading of a short story or poem. They will then have a time of literary discussion along with hands-on reinforcement of concepts using crafts, visual aides and fun sheets.
Older students will study classic short stories and learn the process of literary analysis through analytical techniques, literary elements, literary devices, and writing genres.

*This is a full year course that will cover both
fall and spring semesters.

FRIDAY CLASSES

Dare to Draw

-Introduction to Pencil Art-
Our creative Mrs. Kaley is back!!
This semester students will be introduced to the art of pencil sketching,  exploring foundational concepts such as line, shape, shading, contour, and perspective.
Students will be encouraged to explore and express their imaginations with  teacher instruction and inspiration.
There will also be a weekly bonus time
of Art History!!
Each student will need to provide their own drawing pencils, colored pencils and sketchbook for this class.
*This is a one semester class.

Apologetics

Our children are constantly exposed to worldly ideas. How will your student discern what is true and what is false concerning the Bible?
It is unfair to teach them to memorize scripture, read their Bible, do a devotional,  or sing Christian songs, and not teach them why they believe what they believe.
Apologetics-- the practice of defending what you believe through conversation-- will equip our students to think biblically and to carefully evaluate every idea they encounter without offending your personal family's doctrine.
Guaranteed to be a favorite class full of thoughtful conversation!!
*Will be presented in an age-appropriate manner.*
*This is a one semester class.

Think!

-Weekly Team Building Challenges-
Each week students received a stack of supplies and one basic instruction.
(Example: construct a tall-as-possible tower with these straws and marshmallows)
No detailed instructions will be given.
The teacher will try not to give too much advice or offer personal ideas. Students must brainstorm a hypothesis and work together to accomplish the task.
The students built by our motto: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!
One outcome is always guaranteed:
FUN - FUN - FUN!!
*This is a one semester class.
